Holy Saturday ... Waiting

Waiting. In a world of hurry and scurry, waiting is a lost art. We grow impatient very quickly. We no longer have to wait for the postal worker to bring a letter. We can send the information by email and even telephone text messaging. We no longer have to wait for a delicious dinner to cook. We need merely to hop in our cars and hit a "fast" food restaurant. In fact, we want everything to be done without waiting.

This is one reason why Lent is so hard. We have to journey through 40 days of waiting to get to Easter. The more we know, the harder the wait may seem. For instance, if we know that Easter is 40 days away, we will likely count off the days one by one, making the time seem to pass more slowly.

We aren't so good at waiting, are we? Jesus told the disciples to go back to Jerusalem and wait ... no time limit was specified ... just wait. I'm afraid that I would not have been very good at being a first century disciple.

On Holy Saturday, the long week is almost over. Many meals have been prayed over. Many services of remembrance have been held. Many works of kindness have been done. And there have been those things that we have overlooked as we have waited. And still we wait ... for Sunday morning. For resurrection. For life.

May God grant you peace in the waiting times as well as in the joyous resurrection time.
